CUT celebrates Africa Month, which is themed the “Taste of Africa"
The Governance and Student Life Unit, in collaboration with the International Students Association (ISA), hosted a vibrant "Taste of Africa" event on 8 May 2024 as part of the Africa Month celebrations. The aim was to showcase African cultures through a culinary journey featuring local cuisines from South Africa, Nigeria, Lesotho, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. The event featured captivating performances by cultural groups like Ezi Ka Shaka Zulu National and Embo Xhoza Nation, along with a fashion parade by Basotho.
The cultural settings at the event exemplified CUT's dedication to celebrating diversity, which is in line with its core values and the Vision 2030 goal of becoming a leading African university of technology that promotes innovation and inclusivity.
The culinary stalls served as an educational platform, highlighting Africa's diverse flavours and cooking traditions. At the same time, CUT FM added an interactive element to the event, engaging the audience throughout the day. A live performance by Sesotho Rappers Cifikulture added a dynamic touch, reflecting the continent's rich traditions and histories.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Pamela Dube also attended the event, emphasising the university's commitment to creating an educational environment that embraces different cultural experiences and diversity.
This event not only marked Africa Month but also highlighted the significance of heritage, shared educational aspirations, and the value of cultural exchange and community engagement in nurturing a globally competent and culturally aware student body. It underscored CUT's mission to prepare students to lead and innovate in an increasingly interconnected world.
